She rarely works from references but rather her approach is to begin with creating spontaneous abstract textured surfaces, which eventually begin to show her an idea and direction she might take. Her process is step by step with no final outcome in mind. Each step leads to the next and sometimes, a turn of the canvas can present a completely new idea and change in direction. This unpredictable approach to painting is exciting and full of surprises. She enjoys taking risks, believing that it leads to more interesting art and growth as an artist.
Sandy is a member of Lake Area Artists, Watercolor Society of Oregon, Oregon Society of Artists, Painters Showcase of Portland, and Buffalo Grass Art Society.
Her work is also exhibited yearly at the Art Affair Lake Area Artists Annual Show and at the Painters Showcase Annual Art Show. She has also shown her work at the Art on Broadway Gallery, the Oregon Society of Artists Gallery, the Lake Oswego Festival of Arts Open Show and Special Exhibits, the Celebration of Creativity Show, The Florence Street Gallery through Washington County Open Studios, Local 14 Art Show, and at the Portland Home and Garden Show. Her paintings have also been juried into the River Sea Gallery, Manley Art Center and the Elsinore Fine Art Gallery through the Watercolor Society of Oregon.
Her painting “New Territory” can be seen in the North Light published book Incite 2 Color Passions: the Best of Mixed Media.
