Loma Smith
I am in awe of our planet’s magnificence. Finding and exploring unique locations is a lifelong passion. While connected in nature, our hearts open, and a treasure chest of rare gems are exposed. Seeing nature’s beauty and joy reveal themselves over and over again is why I photograph.
Studying the subtlety of composition and lighting under Ansel Adams’ trusted colleague Milton Halberstadt, professor emeritus at the University of Oregon, ceded my undying love for photography. I extended my education at Cornish Institute of Allied Arts in Seattle Washington and with a Masters through the Professional Photographers of America.

After 20 years of having a full-service portrait studio and raising a family in West Linn just outside of Portland, my husband and I sold everything and headed out for a three-year adventure in an Airstream. Being outside my comfort zone and living as a minimalist in 180 square feet has given me new found gratitude. Sensing all the elements in the middle of nature led to a deeper appreciation for life’s purities. We then moved back to Sisters to be closer to family and reconnect to a strong community of art lovers.
For decades, my pursuit in the art of photography has become an opportunity to share the healing power of mother nature and the beauty within each of us. Our interconnected lives provide affirmation on the power of love to drive imagination. I use my lens to connect with people’s emotions, love, and beauty. Helping them see their true selves through my art is my greatest realization.
