Laura Fouts
I was raised in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, and spent most of my adult life there. But, since 2008, I live just outside of the city of Sisters.
Like so many others, my love of art started when I was very young. In high school I took every art class offered. I enrolled and was accepted to The Museum Art School in Portland, and went on to take many community college classes, but I consider myself mostly self- taught.
My work career has often given me a creative outlet. I worked in sign shops, designed retail display, taught calligraphy and most recently worked as a painter for a custom tile designer and fabricator. One could say that I have dabbled in many different media over the years.
I have a love of all things paper and starting with calligraphy moved on to book and box making. Watercolor is also something I have pursued, but my preferred media now is soft pastels. It’s now my passion. I love the feel of the different brands of pastel on tactile paper. Some are firm. Some feel like butter. I love the layering and blending process and of course the end result.
