Bill Birnbaum

Born and raised in New York, I spent my middle years in Southern California. There, I raised two sons and enjoyed a 25-year career as a self-employed management consultant. In 2007, my wife Wendy and I were ready for a change. We sold our home, put everything we owned in storage and purchased two one-way tickets to Arequipa, Peru. We spent the next eight months living in Peru, six of those months working voluntarily in a poor community in the Peruvian Andes. We then spent an additional four months traveling in Ecuador, Patagonia Chile and Argentina. Upon returning from South America in 2008, we settled in Sisters, Oregon. There, each Monday and Wednesday evening, during the school year, we teach English to Hispanic adults. During the summer, you can find me out on a nearby lake in a red kayak. Or hiking in the Cascade mountains. During the winter, I travel on snowshoes or cross-country skis. I just finished writing my third book – a memoir entitled “A Lifetime of Small Adventures.” It's available through bookstores and Amazon.com. Also, I write a blog at: www.AdventureRetirement.com
