Alexandra Coogan

It is through a deep, personal questioning and engagement with the inner structures of my natural surroundings, that my artwork births and evolves. I examine and re-interpret the interior conditions of nature, its microcosms of energy, communication networks and decomposition patterns, as if it were the heart and soul of my own human existence.

While structure and form are important, I express the tension between permanence and impermanence by delicate abstractions of interiors. Within the community of inner life and outer structure there exist dynamic energies. The energies and constant changes are the work of my art. We are not apart or separate from these energies, but rather part of a whole, a whole community with nature.

I am also interested in capturing the whispering sounds of the wind through the Ponderosa Pines, and the shimmering movement of water cascading over rocks. Consistent with my desire to emulate nature, I acquire rocks, grind them and make some of my own paints. This search for the expression of truth about nature is my personal commitment to its comforting and confounding narratives.

The Eco Poet Robinson Jeffers wrote in “Not Man Apart” “.....Integrity is wholeness, the greatest beauty is organic wholeness, the wholeness of life and things, the divine beauty of the Universe. Love that, not man apart from that…” Robinson Jeffers
